Lucky Number Slevin

Up and coming director Paul McGuigan has crafted an enticingly electric rendition of the great films of the past with the new film, “Lucky Number Slevin.” With engaging performances, and unique characters, we realize “Lucky Number Slevin” has the heart and soul of a Quentin Tarantino film, but the freshness and originality of Bryan Singer’s “The Usual Suspects.” Together, the ideas span over a generation of cinema to provide a fresh take on the moments we all know and love from the past.

In the opening scenes of Slevin, we are introduced to a mysterious character played by Bruce Willis. Known simply as Mr. Goodkat, his simple introduction speech acts as the heart of the film himself. Equally enthralling is the surprising performance from Josh Hartnett. This spotlight destined actor has been pacing the sidelines for quite enough time now and has finally entered the ring with a unique role. Rightfully so, Hartnett fits right in. His fast driven and hard edged performance as Slevin Kelevra is undoubtedly his most sophisticated and best appearance yet.As the likable guy who seems down on his luck, Slevin maintains his coolness when he gets mistaken for someone involved in the ongoing battle between two crime bosses. He soon finds the unlikely help from a flirtatious next door neighbor played by an endearing Lucy Liu.

With already inpeccable casting, McGuigan surprises us once again with the addition of legendary actors Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley as the two crime bosses. Their limitless talents deliver some great moments of humor as well as some dangerous moments of fear and anger. This pairing also equates to one of he most memorable confrontations to come across the screen in recent years. Even with these two famed actors, it’s great to see Hartnett shine with seemingly limitless ease.

Hyped up with a great soundtrack, star performances, and never ending thrills, “Lucky Number Slevin” is high class thrill ride in a high class society. Meant to be witnessed with breakneck excitement, this is one movie you shouldn’t miss.
